Concrobium® Mold Stain Remover™ two-step system with peracetic acid (peroxyacetic acid) as the active ingredient for mold stain removal on semi-porous materials (cement, wood) and non-porous materials (plastic, metal). Sold by kit of 2 containers.
Manufacturer product code: Mold Stain Remover™
This product is ideal for those who must efficiently remove mold stains without using chlorine-based products since this product is more effective than simple hydrogen peroxide-based products. Concrobium® Mold Stain RemoverMC is ideal for the restoration professionals, be they specialized in mold remediation or disaster recovery clean-up. This product consists in the first step to the restoration of run-down or damaged surfaces and materials.
Its formula, which is in fact a system combining the action of sodium percarbonate and propylene glycol diacetate, penetrates deep into the substrate through a much more aggressive oxidation process than domestic bleaching agents. It is in fact so powerful that, as opposed to hydrogen peroxide-based products, one doesn’t need to scrub the treated surface to assist the process. Then simply vacuum the treated surface with HEPA equipment to remove spores and residue before moving on to the second step, that is sterilization.
Dilution:
The manufacturer recommends pouring Part 2 into a pail or directly into a hand sprayer. Then pour Part 1 directly into a pail or hand sprayer containing Part 2. Make sure it is well diluted to a 2% peracetic acid solution. The solution must be kept in the open air at all times.
Coverage:
The approximate coverage rate ranges between 300 ft2 to 400 ft2/gal US and depends heavily on the porosity of the materials and the amount of product applied.
Procedures:
The manufacturer recommends the use of a pump sprayer (SACC2) to apply the Concrobium® Mold Stain Remover™. It is critical to wear personal protective equipment since the product is quite irritating.
Simply saturate the affected material with enough product to make it visibly wet. The manufacturer recommends to dry the surface to be treated if necessary since moisture reduces the potency of the product. It is, moreover, recommended to let the solution sit for 30 minutes; for stubborn stains, the process can take up to 24 hours. Repeat if necessary, although the manufacturer strongly believes once is enough to remove any mold stains.
Required safety equipment:
The manufacturer highly recommends to take the necessary precautions when handling this irritating product. It would be wise to wear respiratory protection gear such as a full facepiece respirator (R6800) equipped with cartridges for protection from organic vapours and acids gases (R60923) as well as rubber gloves (G561).
Limitations:
Peracetic acid is a strong oxidizing agent and a primary irritant. It usually comes in a diluted form which is not so hazardous except for mucous membranes. Under pure form, exposure to peracetic acid is highly toxic to the skin, eyes and respiratory system and may cause chemical burns. Handling this product thus requires basic personal protection equipment such as gloves and safety eyewear and to have the necessary knowledge on how to dispose of the residues according to the applicable legislation. Although the manufacturer remains quiet on the subject, it’s critical to follow the directions pertaining to the mixing of both contents; a failure to comply may result in a powerful acid only major industrials are able to handle. Under normal conditions, this product decomposes into non-toxic byproducts: acetic acid, oxygen and water.
Once the content of both bottles have been mixed together, you dispose of a window of two hours to use the product. After two hours, the product will have decomposed and will be ineffective against mold stains.
Storage:
Keep out of the reach of children at a temperature ranging between 40 °F (4.5 °C) and 75 °F (24 °C). Once the contents of both bottles have been mixed together, the product cannot be stored long-term. Any excess product that has not been used must then be safely eliminated.
