The prefilter is the first filtration stage of the HEPA ZONE 24 air scrubber. It captures large airborne particulates (such as some mold spores, cement dust, wood dust, etc.) and helps extend the lifetime of the main HEPA filter.

The prefilter must be replaced when it becomes saturated. The frequency of replacement will depend on the concentration of airborne particles and on the duration of air scrubber use. In very dusty environments or with intensive air scrubber use, replacement may be needed every 72 hours. In clean environments or infrequent air scrubber use, replacement may be needed only every 3 months. When the prefilter is saturated, the air scrubber motor must work harder to push air through the filter, which can lead to dangerous overheating. Therefore, preemptively replacing the prefilter helps extend the air scrubber service life.
