The green Running Man pictogram has been adopted by the National Building Code of Canada in 2010.The 2015 version, section 3.4.5.1 (2)(b)(c), requires conformity with ISO 3864-1 and ISO 7010. The green Running Man pictogram replaces traditional red EXIT signs.

Under normal conditions, the green pictogram is permanently lit to indicate the emergency exit. In case of power outage, the two spotlights automatically turn on to light the evacuation path and the green pictogram remains lit.

Circuitry :
This sign requires a continuous 120 V or 347 V AC 60 Hz power supply.

The backlit green Running Man pictogram consumes 1.9 W under AC power and 0.9 W under 6 V DC power.
The spotlights consume 2 W each.

This sign includes an internal sealed 6 V 36 W Ni-Cad back-up battery. In case of power outage, the battery can supply 36 W for 30 minutes, 18 W for 60 minutes, 12 W for 90 minutes or 9 W for 120 minutes. The battery can run for more than 4 hours, but the supplied power decreases with time.

The sign features a test button and two indicator light on the side: one indicator for AC power, and one indicator for battery charging. The circuit board includes protections against brownout and short-circuits.

Configuration :
This sign may be single-faced for wall mounting, or double-faced for side mounting and ceiling mounting. The pictograms can be swapped by unscrewing the faceplates.

Use the centered pictogram when the sign is mounted directly above the emergency exit or in a hallway that leads directly to the exit. Use the pictograms with arrows to indicate the direction of escape when the sign is mounted in a corner or at an intersection.

The spotlights tilt up and down and include lockscrews.
