CART/FIL OV AG AM MA FM, PR North N series, Defender: Organic Vapor, Chlorine, Hydrogen Chloride, Sulfur Dioxide, Hydrogen Sulfide, Hydrogen Fluoride, Chlorine Dioxide, Ammonia, Methylamine, Formaldehyde and P100 Cartridge/Filter Combination. (2/pk)
This type of cartridge has two indissolubly linked parts, that is, a P100 filter which protects one from airborne particles and an active charcoal part which protects one from gases and vapours. The filter is certified P100 which means it protects from 99,97% of solid, liquid, oil based and non-oil based particles in the air. The letter "P" stands for "oil proof". As for the active charcoal part, it is the most efficient and cost-efficient method of filtering airborne contaminants on the market. North cartridges have been designed to protect one from organic vapours such as xylene, benzene, spray paint, pesticides; acid gases such as chlorine dioxide (ClO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), hydrogen fluoride (HF), hydrochloric acid (HCl) and gases such as formaldehyde (CH₂O), ammonia (NH₃) and methylamine (CH₃NH₂). The 60926 cartridges for acid gases can protect one from hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) for a limited time. Without the right equipment, H₂S is extremely hazardous. These cartridges are meant to protect one in case of emergency evacuation due to a release of hydrogen sulfide. One must of course, throw away the cartridges exposed to that gas.
Use for:
This type of cartridge is ideal for chemical and petrochemical manufacturing, mines and primary metals manufacturing.
It protects from oil based particles, radioactive particles (uranium, plutonium), heavy metals particles (lead, cadmium, arsenic), and carcinogenic particles (4,4’methylenedianiline (MDA)). Certified ‘P100’ protect one from silica, the second main cause of chronic respiratory problems after asbestos. CAUTION: These cartridges don’t protect one from carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO₂). If one has to work in an environment that may contain those two gases, one has to find another way to protect himself.
Biological particles:
This type of cartridges helps prevent the inhalation of certain airborne biological particles like mold, Bacillus anthracis (Anthrax), Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Tubercle bacillus Koch) the main causative agent of tuberculosis, pandemic flues (H5N1, H1N1), etc. However, it cannot eliminate the risk of contracting infection, illness or disease. Of course, whenever one has to protect himself only from biological particles, one should definitely opt for something else than this equipment. P100 cartridges are by design made for workers who must protect themselves from biological particles on top of being protected from gases, vapours and airborne particles.
Do not use for:
Do not use on a beard and other facial hair or if the user suffers from a condition that prevents him from having direct contact with the respirator’s sides. One should never use a respirator regardless of the type of cartridge in use whenever concentrations of gases and vapors exceed 10 times the admissible limit set by the CNESST or any other regulation applicable. Avoid sandblasting and oxygen deprived environments (an atmosphere with less than 19,5 % oxygen).
Maintenance and service life:
Studies have shown that in case of contaminant mixture, all vapours are absorbed simultaneously by the granulated charcoal inside the cartridges. One must take into account the presence of a contaminant mixture since the most volatile solvent will saturate the cartridge. The cartridge service life and one’s degree of protection will then depend on the concentration and the nature of the contaminants in the air.
Since this is a disposable product, there is no maintenance. In theory, whenever it is hard to breath with these cartridges, it means the filter part is saturated; one must thus change both cartridges. On the other hand, if one may smell and/or taste the contaminant from which he protects himself from, the charcoal part is saturated; one must thus change both cartridges again. The manufacturer’s limitations must be followed.
One may store its cartridges in an airtight bag or container since even when not in use, the cartridge absorb whatever contaminant there may be in the air.
