These polyester waterproof pants are made with 300 denier yarns in the oxford pattern for better tear resistance. The interior of the coat is coated with polyurethane to make it waterproof.

All seams have been taped and heat-sealed. These lightweight and flexible pants are ideal for occasional use. They are recommended for any worker surrounded by motorized vehicles: construction workers, white collars, drivers, transport workers, etc.

Reflective stripes and visibility:
These water-resistant pants have been provided with silver retroreflective stripes. Each one of them has a width of 50 mm (2 in.), and is surrounded by thin hi-viz yellow stripes. These pants have two horizontal stripes around the ankles.

Fluorescent yellow (or that safety greenish yellow) is quite visible during daylight and in poor natural light conditions, e.g. at dawn or dusk. In most cases, this yellow ensures a high contrast with most backgrounds. Since bright yellow is lighter than orange, it can be perceived more easily at night, yet reflective stripes will always be best in the dark.

Fluorescent orange is quite visible during daylight and in bright artificial lighting conditions. In most cases, it ensures a high contrast with most backgrounds. However, bright orange is less visible at night and in poor lighting conditions, be it natural or artificial, e.g. at dawn or dusk.

Silver retroreflective stripes are the most visible there is in poor lighting conditions, be it natural or artificial, since they reflect the light toward the light source (flashlight, automotive headlamp, etc.). Therefore, they offer greater protection at dawn, dusk, and night. Reflective bands won’t, however, increase visibility during daylight.

Design:
These pants are easy to wear over warm clothes while allowing good air circulation thanks to their loose fit. They have pockets with side pockets. In addition, it has a pocket on the back right side that is protected by a flap with hook and loop closure. These pants do not have a fly. Hook and loop closures have been installed on the sides, near the ankles, to allow for adjustment when wearing work or winter boots. These pants are not flame resistant.

These oxford polyester pants with a polyurethane laminated interior are made with 300 denier yarns. In simpler terms, these pants are medium weight: light enough to offer comfort and heavy enough to offer adequate protection. By definition, 300 denier expresses the weight of 9,000 m of yarn used, so 300 denier equals 300 g. The manufacturer Terra is not able to provide the thickness of the polyurethane lamination. However, they assure us that the polyester Oxford knit offers very good resistance to tearing and abrasion.

As far as the term Oxford is concerned, it is the type of weaving. It is widely used in the industry, especially in the garment industry. The oxford weave is obtained by crossing a weft thread (horizontal thread) and a warp thread (vertical thread) in order to create the grid aspect. These cells act as a barrier to tears that fail to propagate beyond the torn cell.

Water-resistance:
Polyurethane-lined waterproof safety wear is usually worn by workers who may be exposed to remote risks of chemical splashes. PU is lightweight and porous; it’s thus ideal to manufacture light and breathable workwear. Yet, during heavy rains and windstorms, PU tends to get waterlogged and lose all its water-resistant property. Once overloaded, polyurethane lets water leach into the pants under any pressure, e.g. by leaning on something or bending over.

Maintenance:
These rain pants should always be machine-washed in a delicate setting with cold or lukewarm water, and a gentle soap. Never use bleaching agents or fabric softeners on these pants. It should also be air-dried in a sheltered spot out of direct sunlight. Never tumble dry, iron or dry clean this rainwear. The manufacturer ensures that these pants have a service life of twenty-five wash.
