This 300-denier Trilobal® polyester safety wear has been lined with polyurethane (PU) to provide water-resistance. The manufacturer grants this product a waterproof rating of 5,000 mm, i.e. it can withstand the pressure of a 5 m water column. A waterproof rating is granted when a material has been tested under the pressure of a cylinder filled with water, in this case, 5 m high of water. This height defines the limit at which the material stops being resistant and water starts passing through.

All seams have been taped and heat-sealed. This lightweight and flexible hood is ideal for occasional use. It is recommended for any worker surrounded by motorized vehicles: construction workers, white collars, drivers, transport workers, etc.

Visibility:
Fluorescent orange is quite visible during daylight and in bright artificial lighting conditions. In most cases, it ensures a high contrast with most backgrounds. However, bright orange is less visible at night and in poor lighting conditions, be it natural or artificial, e.g. at dawn or dusk.

Design:
This PU lined Trilobal® polyester hood is said to be manufactured with a 300-deniers yarn; in layman’s terms, it is a medium-weight hood which is lightweight enough to offer comfort but is heavyweight enough to offer an effective protection. By definition, 300 deniers refer to the weight in grams of 9,000 m of the yarn used to make this hood, that is, 300 deniers equal 300 g. The manufacturer, Viking®, is unable to provide the polyurethane liner’s thickness. However, he ensures that Trilobal® polyester offers a good resistance to wear and tear.

Regarding the term Trilobal®, it refers to the type of woven fabric. It strongly resembles the oxford cloth which is widely used in the industry, namely the apparel industry. Trilobal® weaving is said to be four times more resilient than the oxford which consists in interlacing a warp thread (horizontal line) and a weft thread (vertical line) to create a basket weave structure. Indeed, Trilobal® consists of a triple twined polyester thread that creates a cross-section of fibres at regular intervals to form cells. These cells significantly increase the tensile strength of the garment effectively preventing tears from expanding to the next cell.

Fluorescent orange is very visible during the day and in conditions with a lot of artificial light. In most situations, it also provides high contrast with the background. Fluorescent orange, however, is less visible at night and in low natural or artificial light conditions, such as dawn or dusk.

Water-resistance:
Polyurethane-lined waterproof safety wear is usually worn by workers who may be exposed to remote risks of chemical splashes. PU is lightweight and porous; it’s thus ideal to manufacture light and breathable workwear. Yet, during heavy rains and windstorms, PU tends to get waterlogged and lose all its water-resistant property. Once overloaded, polyurethane lets water leach into the rainwear under any pressure, e.g. by leaning on something or bending over.

Maintenance:
This hood should always be machine-washed in a delicate setting with cold or lukewarm water, and a gentle soap. Never use bleaching agents or fabric softeners on this hood. It should also be air-dried in a sheltered spot out of direct sunlight. Never tumble dry, iron or dry clean this hood. The manufacturer ensures that this hood has a service life of twenty-five wash.
