Dentec Safety Specialist's self-retracting lanyard or personal fall arrester (SLR) with internal energy absorber. This model is 7 ft (2.13 m) long and is based on the previous CSA standard. Therefore, it does not protect workers from sharp edges also known as Leading Edge (LE) applications. This protection is subject to the conditions of use described in the user manual. The webbing is made of a composite material not disclosed by the manufacturer.

Dentec product code: 16SRL007215 model 0072215
This product complies with ANSI Z359.14-2014 and CSA Z259.2.2-1998.

Strap Dimensions:
Thickness: 0.06 in (1.59 mm)
Width: 1.0 in (25.4 mm)
Length: 7 ft (2.13 m)

This type of equipment has the advantage of replacing regular lanyards, as their stopping distance is reduced. This self-retracting lanyard is equipped with a standard carabiner with 7/8" (22.22 mm) opening. The carabiner is self-locking and unlocks with a double action. Please note that this equipment is not equipped with a semi-automatic carabiner (with rotating ring) with a 3/4" (19 mm) opening (FPAM88 or FPAM91).

This personal fall limiter with a vertical anchor can support a worker weighing 310 lbs (136 kg), including clothing, tools and equipment.

During a fall, the fall distance varies depending on the anchor arrangement. The maximum stopping distance is 3.28 ft (1.0 m) with a vertical anchor point. Its braking mechanism will limit the forces exerted on the falling worker. For a worker weighing a maximum of 310 lbs, the stopping forces will be 4.12 kN (928 lbf). Once the strap is deployed, the strap overload indicator will appear. It is not possible to have it repaired by the manufacturer, it is better to replace it.

The carabiner (hook) is made of steel and can withstand a force of 3600 lbs (16 kN) without deforming.

The housing is made of impact resistant thermoplastic and corrosion resistant parts. The lightweight devices can be mounted on the worker's harness for greater freedom and range of motion. The housing is approved for use in the application. In addition, it has an integrated rotating swivel that prevents the strap from twisting. Its total weight is 2.84 lbs (1.29 kg).

The self-retracting lanyard has a certification label on the housing. A bilingual instructional label is also affixed to the housing to increase understanding of the conditions of use.

About the anchor point and free fall distance:
The anchor point should preferably be located above the level of the harness back loop and should be positioned vertically to the user. The worker should remain below the anchor point so as to remain within a perimeter of no more than a 30 degree angle. In addition, if there are unprotected cutting edges, they should be secured.

It is important that the user is aware of the risks of a possible fall. Among other things, is there a sufficient distance free of obstacles below the worker? Are there emergency measures in place to quickly recover the worker? Can the anchor point withstand a force of 5000 lbs? For more information, consult the manufacturer's manual.

Inspection:

The worker is responsible for performing a routine inspection before each use. During this routine inspection, the worker should observe any signs of deterioration, wear, malfunction or breakage. You must replace your equipment at the first sign of failure.

In addition, this retractable should be inspected by a qualified person other than the worker. The required frequency of these inspections varies by manufacturers. Some prescribe every 90 days, other every 180 days, or even annually.

Keep in mind that the more difficult the work and environmental conditions, the more often your equipment will need to be inspected. The recommended life span of a lanyard is 5 years. Some manufacturers are silent on the subject, but in practice, a retractable used regularly and neglected in terms of storage or maintenance will not have a long life. On average, their lifespan will not exceed 5 years.

Sylprotec offers an inspection service for lanyards and safety harnesses. For this type of self retracting lifeline, the manufacturer is not able to provide recertification. Due to their low cost, they are discarded in case of breakage or wear. Find out more by clicking on the Services tab, under the Sylprotec logo at the top of the page.

Suggestion:

To complete your fall protection you will find a range of harness and anchors. Some products are suggested under the "accessories" tab at the bottom of this page.
